In the computer industry software makers will often show their plans for their products well ahead of time. Here’s our roadmap:
Now In Progress:
- Plugin for Subtitle Edit – Refinements are being made to an app that makes it even easier to use Subtitle Edit (an opensource application for editing subtitles) to verify and edit subtitles on Freely Given Online. The most important features are management of files (subtitles, audio, etc) and edit lists of scripture references used in the classes and sermons.
- Website version 3.0 – Improvements are being made to the player page, searches, class materials and user interaction. Sharing links that will automatically play segments of audio files will be even easier. Improvements for managing subtitles files and editing scripture references, topic and other meta data will be improved.
- Transcript Downloads – After editing the word-for-word subtitles (for English closed captions) users will be able to download a text-only copy of those subtitles which can be edited for reading. This gives volunteers and other users an opportunity to edit lessons for better literary grammar. This will give Freely Given Online the ability to provide materials for use in corrections facilities where technology is restricted.
Up Next:
- Multilingual Subtitle Management – After we have accurate English language subtitles we can use translation apps to convert the English text to other languages. Like the English subtitles these files must be reviewed and edited for accuracy and for ease of understanding. In addition volunteers can address both dialect and idiom variations for what is known as ‘localization’.
- Website Improvements – Additional user interaction such as Favorites and Lists will allow users to keep track of the material that meant the most to them as well as prepare their own compilations for study and review.
Being Designed:
- Student Progress Tracking – Keeping track of a student’s progress through the available materials is a great way to motivate and guide them through their discipleship and education.
- Certificates of Completion – When a student has completed a prescribed set of classes and lessons they will be able to download and even print a Certificate of Completion issues by Freely Given Online.
- Additional Materials and Classes – The material currently available is extensive, both in depth and in breadth, but it isn’t everything that a modern Christian needs to be ‘fully equipped unto every good work’. We’ll be making selections and including other materials necessary to complete the education of our users and students.
In The Future:
- Academic Diplomas – There’s a lot of work to be done before we can provide diplomas that are up to academic standards.
